Winter is such a beautiful time to visit Cornwall. Everything has a sense of magic and stillness, it’s the perfect recharge. With plenty to do but nothing you need to rush for, it’s the dream balance of entertainment and down time. We’ve put together our favourite suggestions for things to do in Cornwall during the cold season.
Attend the Christmas Events
With so many Christmas events, you have to make sure you head to one or two simply to get in the festive spirit. Our favourites include Late Night Shopping in the cathedral City of Truro, enjoying the hustle and bustle, street entertainment, hot doughnuts served from street vendors and if you time it right on Wednesday 22nd November, the opening night, you’ll enjoy the incredible City of Lights lantern parade. We also adore the Padstow Christmas Festival taking place 7th – 10th December with food demonstrations and local foodie legends Rick Stein, Paul Ainsworth and Nathan Outlaw all making an appearance, plus a fantastic Christmas market featuring local food, drink, arts and crafts.
Go Ice Skating
It’s not winter unless you get a few rounds on an ice rink in! And there’s nowhere more unique to enjoy ice-skating than The Eden Project. Open until 18th February and with a beautiful winter ambience, enjoy a skating session followed by a warming drink in the rink-side café. Whilst you’re there, check out the fabulous Eden Project in the winter, the unique biomes and experiences available. Also, throughout November and December you can meet Father Christmas where kids will enjoy a fireside tale followed by time with the big bearded man himself.
Visit the Beach
There is nothing better than the beach on a chilly winter day. Wrap up warm and brace the elements as you explore the Cornish coast. We’ll drop you there with our luxury Land Rover Service, simply wrap up in layers, pull on some wellies and away you go to kick up some sand and watch the waves. We’ll collect you when you’re done and get you safely back to St Moritz ready for a hot chocolate by the fire… bliss.
Head to Mousehole
You can’t come to Cornwall at Christmas time and not visit Mousehole. Famous for both the fishing history and the tale of The Mousehole Cat, Mousehole is the place to visit for Christmas lights in Cornwall. An authentic Cornish village, explore the winding cobbled streets, admire the lights in the harbour and why not pick up some fish and chips to enjoy beside the water? That’s a proper Cornish Christmas.
Enjoy a Warming Spa Day
Why leave the comfort of the hotel when you can snuggle down and enjoy a spa day, hidden away from the world? Forget wrapping up warm or worrying about wind or rain, enjoy a dip in our indoor pool, unwind in the Jacuzzi and let off some steam in the steam room or sauna. Why not indulge in a full spa day for six hours of head to hoof bliss in the Cowshed Spa? Soak up a salt scrub and muscle melting massage, a facial, manicure and pedicure plus a light lunch, it’s the ultimate indulgence.
However you spend your winter, whether active or chilled out, exploring or firmly affixing a “Do Not Disturb” sign on your door, we’ve got something to suit and fingers crossed, we’ll get snow to make it even more magical.
