Cornwall has always been at the forefront for family holidays. These days it’s less about buckets and spades (although you still can’t beat some classic beach-y family fun) and more about exploring together and creating memories for everyone to treasure. Here are our suggestions for fun things to do this year if you’re visiting Cornwall for Half Term.
For a day of adventure and family fun, look no further than The Screech Owl Sanctuary. Promoting awareness of the conservation needs of owls, this promises an educational day out combined with guided tours and falconry displays. Get to see miniature Shetland ponies, Pygmy goats, emus and alpacas and have fun in the play area. For an additional cost, children can get to know the owls one to one with a private handling session – twit twoo!

For something a little more nautical, get your wetsuit on and get in the water with Wavehunters Surf Academy. Whether a surf lesson or stand-up paddle board session, there’s something for all ages and adrenaline preferences. For something a bit more relaxed for the grandparents, why not enjoy a family boat trip with Padstow Sealife Safaris? Their two-hour sea safari covers 25 miles of beautiful Cornish coastline where you can spot seals, dolphins and porpoises a-plenty out on the open waves. Alternatively, why not book the shorter seals cave experience especially designed to spot grey seals in their natural habitat.

Sometimes the best thing to do is as little as possible which is why we’ve designed for as much fun for all of the family to be had on site so that you don’t have to leave the hotel to have a good time. Why not enjoy an afternoon splashing about in the indoor pool followed by afternoon tea for the family? You can even enjoy a stroll to the beach afterwards and have a run around on the sand to burn off all of those calories from the indulgent Cornish clotted cream!
When in Cornwall, do as the pirates do and hunt for treasure, me hearties! The Port Isaac Treasure Hunt Trail is a self-guided treasure trail with clues to lead you around buildings, monuments and the historic harbour and a chance to win some real treasure! Fun for kids and an excuse to explore picturesque Port Isaac for adults, this is a great day out for all the family!

A day on the beach but not as you know it! Of course, we’re big fans of the bucket and spade family days but February is hardly the month to get the sun lotion out. We’ve found an even better beach day… horse riding on the sand. Trenance Stables in Newquay offer horse riding for everyone with lessons, group rides and hacks for riders of all ages and experiences. Their scenic beach ride lasts for an hour and is a breathtakingly beautiful way to witness the Cornish coast and to make memories this Half Term that you’ll never forget.
